What can I say

I don't have many friends but the ones I have have lots of friends so I can spend hours browing my facebook page. I always find something new. I don't like the bad news but mostly is all good stuff. The best is when someone has taken the time to scan old pics, especially if it is an event I attended or remember. But at the end, I feel exausted and feel like I wasted precious time.

Alpiste

Recently, I learned about Alpiste. Alpiste is the Spanish word for birdseed. Specifically canary birdseed. After some reading, I found this seed is grown in Canada. But most interesting is that many people mostly in Latin America have been using this seed to cure many ailments. Such as hypertension, diabetes, and well the one that I was interested in, weigh loss. The claims also say that it's good for the liver and kidneys. I know, right? birdseed? c'mon? Well I went looking for the famous birdseed. No, I didn't go to the pet store. Although, I can't tell for sure, it seems many people are actually using the seeds grown for pet birds. I went looking for the kind that was grown for human consumption. I went to the health store and all the supermarkets. Finally found some tiny bags at a Mexican store. They were in these little 1/4 lb bags for $5.00 each. Supper expensive! But what the heck I wanted instant gratification and try this miracle seed so I bought 4 bags.
There is a specific recepie to follow. My first batch was a disaster and I couldn't imagine drinking this awful mixture. I dump it. Yes, my $5.00 down the drain!
The next day I went to work and shared the news with my Brazilian co-worker. She asked me if I was growing wings. And then she went online and started reading all about the seed in Portuguese. It seems Brazilians are into this seed too! So she wasn't laughing now.
I came home that night and tried the recipe again. I'll share the recipe later. You'll see why I needed to take my time to redo the recipe. So this time it worked. I actually got the Alpiste milk to look like milk. The taste is not bad. If you're familiar with rice or almond milk, it's sort of like that.
It's only been a couple of days since I've been drinking the milk. At first it gave me a bad headache. But I reduced the milk with more water and it was okay. I can really say that I am not hungry. I don't crave sugary foods and I feel light on my feet. I'll keep writing on how this goes.
Recipe:
soak overnight 5 spoonfuls of the Alpiste, strain and wash it in running water. blend it with a small amount of water. once it's all blended. strain it again, this time pour more water up to a liter of water. you can strain it again if you want. Let it sit for awhile and pour the top water for drinking. I usually split the liter into two 16 oz water-bottles. I put them in the fridge. Drink one bottle in the morning before breakfast and one at night, right before bedtime. I don't shake the bottle and just drink the top water and not the sediment.
